Westlake N-of-1 Trials for Macronutrient Intake (WE-MACNUTR)
Diet and nutrition are key to maintain human health. Personalized nutrition refers to tailored nutritional advice, services or other products aimed at improving and maintaining individuals health using nutritional, genetic, phenotypic and other information. Application of ‘N-of-1’ clinical trial represents a new direction in personalized nutrition research, which captures intra-individual variability in health behaviors over time and provides great opportunity to answer the personalization potential of different diets, nutrients or nutrition supplements.
Westlake N-of-1 Trials for Macronutrient Intake (WE-MACNUTR) is a novel dietary intervention study in young adults designed to provide evidence in support of N-of-1 methods. The primary aim is using a series of N-of-1 trials to determine the impacts of a high fat, low carbohydrate diet (HF-LC) on glucose metabolism and gut microbiota in subjects versus a low fat, high carbohydrate diet (LF-HC) at both individual and population level.
